I remember George Carlin as Al Sleet the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman, and Al Pouch the Hippy-Dippy Mailman on Laugh-In ... and then there were all those appearances on Ed sullivan and Johnny Carson. To me he was a raconteur in the tradition of Myron Cohen and Alan King, had the timing of Jack Benny (he could make total silence hilariously funny), the social awareness of Lenny Bruce and irreverence of Jackie Mason, and a wonderfully cynical way of looking at things.
George Carlin will be missed.
