I have to retract what I said about the steps to my old house being painted - I miscounted, and it was our next door neighbor's house that had painted steps. My grandparents' house, at 41-15 Forley has been extensively remodeled and is virtually unrecognizable - looks like it might be a pretty recent remodel - you can kind of see the old "bones" of the house IF you know what you're looking at and IF you know what it looked like before (exactly like 99% of the rest of the houses on the block LOL), but it's now pretty much a characterless brick behemoth squatting on the block.
Da Spouse says that Farmers Branch, Carrollton, and Irving were just starting to "think" about spreading out when he left there. The BIG controversy a couple of years before he moved was the plan to build Texas Stadium in Irving - of course the purists wanted to leave the old Cotton Bowl in that BAD neighborhood in Dallas alone. Figures.
I also put in the address for my father's store location at the corner of 5th Avenue and 46th St in the City - got a gorgeous picture ... of several City of New York trucks parked at the curb - couldn't see the storefront for love nor money.
