Posted by Jamie Dymond Back then, guys actually stayed on the gas till the finish line and fans got a show. Now, fans don't want to watch comp. What was that thread from last week talking about people wanting to watch top sportsman instead of comp? Why is that? I think it's because fans don't want to watch guys play chess on the race track whomping the finish line at each other. Fans want to watch Deceglie run 210+ in his awesome A/A. They want to see little 4 cylinder's buzz on down there going 8's. They want to see small cube smallblocks going 7's. Fans DON'T want to see guys get to 1000' and click it. That's why comp gets confused with super comp by the average fan - with all the sandbagging and screwing around, the show looks the same from the stands. Everyone is scared about comp fading away due to lack of fans, lack of sponsor support, etc. I think if the system gets left alone, fans will want to watch since the racing will be better, sponsors will want to spend money since there will be fans, and more racers might want to race since the racing will be tighter and more competitive. And maybe NHRA will even stop making bogus index'd -.80 classes and putting the final nail in the coffin of classes that are difficult to run -.55 already. That's just my worthless .01.

Pete's comments are spot on. If the system gets left alone, eventually it will even out. Remember when -.55 under was a fast run in any class? How good was the racing then?
