Posted by Dave Ring The rule on page 246 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook states: Any contestent disqualified for mechanical non-compliance loses all points for that particular event. The race will be charged to the contestant's overall quota of races attended, and depending on the nature and circumstances of the infraction, the contestant may be charged with a non-replacable "zero grade" event that will be used as one of the scored events in calculating national and/or divisional standings. Contestants will be notified in writing when a non-replacable zero grade action has been determined to be part of the penalties assessed for disqualification. It is clear from the rule that NHRA has a lot of flexibility in whether to charge a non-replaceable zero grade, so as the owner of a car that is in the top 10 in points, I would like an explanation as to why Bo Butner was not charged a non-replaceable zero grade. I think all the racers deserve this. NHRA on April 20 http://www.nhra.com/content/sportsman_news.asp?articleid=11766&zoneid=85 Failing the explanation from NHRA, I would like to know if anyone knows of other examples whether contestants have either been assigned a zero grade when they were DQ'd or not assigned a zero grade in the face of a DQ so I would at least be able compare those to Bo's.

First, let me indicate to Bo and Jeff that this is not aimed at them personally. After, they did not rule that they could improve on their zero at the 3-1 LODRS, NHRA did. Also note that I have not b###hed about the AA/SM cars on this forum and our team has been willing to attend races that we knew Bo was going to be at.
clearly pointed out the chassis specs required for a AA/SM to run quicker than 7.50. Bo and Jeff are not a couple of yahoos who just fell out of a tree, so they knew that their car did not meet the required chassis certification yet and yet was capable of running a lot faster than 7.50 and two days after that post, the car did run faster than 7.50. Hence the DQ and it came in the face of a warning about the chassis spec.
