Another thing to consider, is back then we had pride in our country and felt it a duty to serve. Those things are not taught, instilled or given in todays society. God help us should another "Pearl Harbor" type incident take place. There wouldn't be any one around that would know what to do. In my opinion, the draft was the savior of many a young man at that time.
vix; When I volunteered for the Army back in`59, it was a way out for me. At 17 I didn't have any idea what I wanted to do with my life. It gave me an opportunity to travel, learn a trade, interact with people of many different cultures and background and something I couldn't get in civilian life, a job.
