Posted by LISA well guess what that is what we need, a bonefide civil rights movement, by us and for us. nami pamby is way to afraid of wave making, i think they are afraid of the water. i have manic-depression, i am not even going to apologize for it, in fact i hold my head high and though i have had a hell of a ride, and still do at times, i also have great gifts that are also some strange and wonderful aspect of this condition as well! i would not have it any other way,it makes and made me who i am, and now i like and know exactly who that is. the person that wrote the home page is so very on target i just love whoever you are!! in fact this reflects my own writings and statements on the subject to a tee. i am about to start my new "program" by us for us to raise self-esteem by looking at ourselves from a new perspective and focusing on all of our amazing and wounderous qualities, tell the truth about the stigma lies with stats, scientific evidence and research, as well as the actual physiological/neurological causes of our conditions in regular language and explainations. this program is for all of the clients, like myself, regardless of diagnosis, as well as anyone not even associated with but interseted, at the county behavioral health clinc i go to. i am not a doctor, student, have no degree, nor have i taken classes. just old fashioned determination, hard work, months, and months or research, documenting sources, reading, and asking questions, calling organizations and being the squeekiest wheel of a lot of people's worst nightmares!! i need information on how to get nonprofit status as i am forming an organization to seriously fight stigma, by protesting at tv stations (especially news shows and tv news), movie studios, prodution studios, newspapers, polititians, ect, that defame, stigmatize, mischaraterize, promote stigma, in any way. i also plan to start filing class action defamation law suits when it is done by a newspaper, tv news, or tv news show. this is because to fit the criteria the show or person say this (media wise) has to be proprteded and expected to be reporting on the truth. class action because as of 1999, according to natinal institute for mental health based on the census report, there are at least 44 million americans that are in treatment. (God only knows how many are not!) knowledge is power. self-esteem is strength. it is high time we claim them for ourselves. high time we all, as, God bless his heart and soul, bob marley says.."stand up, get up, stand up for OUR RIGHTS!!!" WE ARE ALL SO VERY AMAZING, HAVE A DIFFERENT AND BRILLIANT WAY OF LOOKING AT AND SEEING THINGS. HUGE CAPACITIES FOR KINDNESS, SHARING, CARING. SO VERY, VERY MANY OF US HAVE EXTREMELY HIGH LEVELS OF INTELLIGENCE, AND DON'T EVEN KNOW IT, (because everyone has told us we "don't know what we are talking about, we're nuts" or not heard us, dismissed us, and we began to believe then and doubt ourselves, but--IT IS STILL THERE)CREATIVE TALENTS, ART, WRITING, MUSIC,ACTING,ENGINEERING AND ON AND ON...AND COURAGE--HEY AFTER ALL WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH, IT YOU ARE STILL HERE....EVERY ONE OF US IS TRULY A GENUINE HEROE OR HEROINE. if anyone knows anything about how to form a non profit corp let me know please. i would really love to get that info. i have have a dream, just like martin did way back in the day. i remeber them well. i was about 17 when the civil rights amendment was finally signed into law.
(i am not far from hollywood, and lived there, and worked in the music biz both as an artist and
day-job wise for over 10 years.)
