Posted by 11ZOMBIES To further whittle down my question, what is it that you are hoping for in continuing to follow Budd's work? Do you think that Budd will "turn the ship around" and wrap up PS with a mind-blowing final issue? Would you like it if Budd's art style devolved nearly ten years to a point where his skills had not developed to the level he has reached today? I understand your frustration. Many of my favorite comics disappointed me over the years, and I always felt all of those emotions you describe about Cavewoman. Finally I just moved on when I wasn't feeling it anymore. It saved a lot of frustration. I enjoy Cavewoman- the long stories, the one shots, the pinup books- as a showcase of Budd's art. If it's taken him this long to finish a series, that's fine with me. Whenever he puts a book on the shelves, I know I'll enjoy it. Budd has been a mightily entertaining creator over past ten years of reading comics, a real breath of freash air from the mercilessly overplotted and overplanned books released by the major companies of today. Not trying to make the board a holy sanctuary or anything... just curious. --Previous Message--

Certainly criticism isn't inherently negative. Straight up criticism- such as that about dangling plotlines and such- isn't truly negative if presented as what it is- analyzation with knowledge about a subject. However, what makes certain remarks negative are those that berate others for their own opinions. Suggesting that the only reason Budd draws Cavewoman as he does these days is for fanboys to pleasure themselves to would qualify as a negative remark to me, since lots of people enjoy Budd's style and its evolution over the years. It doesn't mean we're all itching to rub one out whenever the new issue of Cavewoman appears. Remarking that a character belongs in the wastebin because of your own personal disdain would be another. If I were to get a comment like that on a project I poured my heart and soul into for over a decade, I'm sure it would sting.
: Criticism is not "negativity". Quite
: the opposite: one must care deeply for a
: subject to bother critizing it at all. And
: that's what message boards are (also) for.
: Review the rules of the board: nowhere does
: it say "This is a Place of Worship, and
: only laudatory messages are allowed".
: The day I stop posting comments, critical or
: otherwise, will be because I've stopped
: caring (and lost all interest in Budd's
: work), and what I once saw as an endearing
: comicbook *character* has been consigned to
: the "chance that was wasted"
: trashbin.
