If nothing else the URR SD-9's show just how skilled and attentive to detail the Greenville shops were by comparison. The 844-847 are the most finely finished chop nosed units I have ever seen. The height of the low hood, the retention of the "bug-eye" marker lamps, and the headlight/numberboard panels fooled alot of people into thinking they are a factory built low nose unit at first glance.
The URR units, though totally functional, lacked the aesthetic finish the B&LE units had.
