Car repair is still done at the docks. They have a small building, but from what I was told all repair work is done outdoors. As for mechanical work in Greenville, yes they can still do work at the shops. They can no longer do “heavy” work since the employee force is low due to the volume of traffic/units on the railroad. I know wheel equipment and some other stuff was sold off shortly after CN took over.
I have noticed the spray paint car #s just recently myself. Not sure who’s call this is but most likely it was done after a visit from the FRA or PUC and they just wanted to get compliant quick and dirty like. …
