Imagine if B&LE had jumped on this hopper experiment with Southern Railway! Picture in you mind the name spelled out, similarly, across the four articulated segments... BE SS EM ER ...

Yes, those are single-axle bogies under each end of the segments. Look where they later wound up! This was one of two such prototype articulated multi-level auto carriers built for Southern by GSC, right here in Greenville.
