No idea Bob. Does it look similar to what is on #836 in this link?

We've discussed before that 835-840, when they arrived in 1971, were leased from the DM&IR. Until around mid-74, they retained their single fuel cell and ballast. They had the leasing stenciling below the forward cab doors. Later they were purchased by the B&LE, the ballasts were removed, and a second fuel cell was added to match the other SD-9's, 7's, and 18's fuel capacity.
Other SD-9's went through this lease then own routine. Were 829-831 in the same boat when they arrived? Not sure, but the overall shape of the stenciling on 830's long hood looks similar to that on 836 that I can definitely confirm is about leasing, though I don't know the exact wording. Todd may be able to help as he some equipment roster details.
Note that by 1976, #838 had the twin fuel cells. There is a picture on the B&LE Pro Board on the Erie Branch in 1973 showing her with the single fuel cell and ballast.
