Railroad reporting marks are an asset because they earn car-hire. Railroads pay somewhere between $0.35 to a couple of dollars an hour to have foreign road cars on their line. Some reporting marks are leased by car leasing companies, ie GE Railcar. GE Rail will lease reporting marks to earn carhire on otherwise car-hire free private railcars. Anything that ends in an "X" except TTPX, RBOX, GONX is a car hire free car. "X" cars earn money on the route-mile. The tricky world of railcar accounting.
