So they were U33B's? Not C's? No wonder they wanted them off in 3 days. They were probably sliding wheels like crazy with the Bessemer's heavy tonnage and slow speeds.
As far as a U18C for URR, there has to be more to that story. I can't see a loco manufacturer passing up potential sales to install a downgraded power unit into an existing locomotive platform.
For instance, if the B&LE just had to have a 1500HP prime mover in there SD38's and wanted to call them SD37's, I'm sure EMD would have done it to get the sales.
