I believe that cabs 1981-1989 were leased from the J.
SD-9's 835-840 were originally stenciled as leased from DM&IR and retained there ballast box in place of the forward fuel cell for a few years. In later pics, the forward fuel cell was addeed and the stenciling was gone. 835 was wrecked at Meharg before those modifications took place.
