The Ronald McDonald rolling Kodachrome box scheme certainly WILL stand out. You sure cannot get hit by these and claim you couldn't see 'em. Heck, if you close you eyes while facing one on a cloudy day, you can still trace the outline of the engine with your finger in the air!
As someone commented elsewhere, it could get grubby and look awful in a mill environment about 15 minutes out of the paint shop. The URR does tend to wash their power more than most, however, so maybe these won't get so bad. Red pilots might have been a wiser choice, though, as the ubiquitous 'grime stripes' that will be sprayed up the yellow face of each from adjacent railcar wheels passing through muddy crossing flangeways will soon 'highlight'.
Somewhere out there, a trial attorney must've successfully sued a U.S. Steel road on the basis of poor visibility, and thus we have this. Just be glad this "common safety/visibility scheme" didn't happen back when the B&LE's SD9s, 18s, '38s and Fs were all still under the USS tent? Ugggghhh!
