It was Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte who let her brother Albert known after the death of their brother that he should take his responsibilities. This in the interview King Albert gave after his abdication.
I remember also Queen Paola saying after the renovation of the children garden house when it was restored that she would enlighten the stove when the Grand Duchess would be there.
They three children out of the first wedding of King Leopold III had a close relationship.
It was also King Albert who regained contact with his half-siblings Prince Alexander and Princess Esmeralda and put them back in "the limelight".
King Albert flew privately to London together with Princess Lilian to attend the wedding of Princess Esmeralda in 1998.
Princess Marie-Christine has broken off all relationships with her family and seems to have from time to time phone contacts with her sister Princess Esmeralda. According to some sources, it recently stopped.
Filip, Astrid and Laurent are believed also close to all of their five Luxembourg first cousins Marie-Astrid, Henri, Jean, Margaretha and Guillaume.
The fact that the biological relation has now been made legal does not change anything in the personal relationships.
The Belgian Royal family is not known for it's warm or close bonds.
I believe that the relationship between Charlotte-Josephine and Boudewijn was good but I'm not sure either of them were very close to Albert II or to their half brother and sisters.
Daphne and Esmeralda are not close and i think Esmeralda and Alexander saw a little more of each other.
Philip is not particularly close to his siblings but has in Astrid and Lorenz good help as monarch.
Laurent is not close to his family.
With some of the Luxembourg cousins both Philippe and Astrid are quite close. They saw a lot of each other at the home of uncle Boudewijn and aunt Fabiola.
Astrid seems closest to her parents.
The children of Astrid seem very close and Philippe and Mathilde also stress the importance of good harmony in their family so i guess the future is looking brighter.
We might have another situation like Delphine because a former lover of prince Laurent has a son that is rumoured to be his.
Oh, hadn't realised that. How sad.
I think more like not, as probably no family occasion, as Delphine never grew up with the different members of the royal Family.
She also stated that it was for her only getting recognition, so I doubt we will see her on any family occasion.
I was wondering whether Delphine would attend this family ocassion in future?
Thanks Eric. Did the memorial service get more press attention that usual? It seems to have been King Albert's first public appearance since he acknowleged Delphine Boël as his daughter.
