As I understand it, the mother, already 38 years old at the time, wanted very much to have a child and being a good friend, Carlos Javier "helped her out", with the understanding that this child never could claim anything from his side of the family. He recognized this Carlos Hugo as his son, but seems not to have any contact with him. Yet he did financially support the child. That Carlos Hugo Klijnstra now wants to change his name to Bourbon Parma, is not that surprising and Dutch law allows that. What I find unjust though, is that -if this wish is granted, confirmed by the High Council of State - he is also allowed the use the royal prefix. That seems to me not logical, him being an illigitimate child.
