Thanks, joris. That gave me a big laugh. Not laughing at you, but your comments about wooden shoes, etc.
I have to admit that when I think of The Netherlands, I actually think of it as Holland. I also immediately think of wooden shoes,a little boy sticking his finger into a dike, and tulips.
Your comments about The Netherlands being tiny, reminded me of a scene in a Bette Davis Movie, "Now Voyager". In this movie she plays a Bostonian spinster (old maid) who finally meets the man of her life. He makes a comment to her about the fact that having lived in the same city their entire lives, they had never met. Bette Davis replied "The world's a small place, but Boston is very big".
I suspect The Netherlands is very big indeed.

Typical Dutch v.
: "foreign". What is typical Dutch?
: Eat Gouda cheese, love the Hema , say
: yummie when they are served hutspot , like
: drop , walk on wooden shoes , serve one
: cookie at teatime only instead of a whole
: plate filled with cookies? It would reduce
: THE Dutch identity to some shallow
: observations. I found her remark quite
: philosophical.
