Princess Maxima is no wall flower. She grew up in te real world, is well traveled, and even held a real job in banking before she became a princess.
I have no doubt that she knew what the word meant. I'm not Mexican, yet I'm aware of the meaning of that word. In Latin America, there's another widely used word, that begins with an S, sounds very similar to the C word, and the meaning has to do with a very specific sex act. The meaning is exactly, in all it's variations, to the F word in American English.
Again, when you read tha proverb, you know right away that said word did not belong there. There's no way that the C word could ever be substituted for corriente. If she didn't know what the word meant, I'm sure she would've asked someone well versed in Mexican slang what the word meant.
To me it's obvious that this was a cheap attempt at bawdy humor.
I wouldn't be the least offended if anyone used any of these words in front of me. When I hang out with y male friends, I wouldn't hesitate to use the S (Latin American) word or the F (American English)word, but I would certainly never speak like that when women are present. I wish I could be more clear with these words, but we're in mixed company, and I'm sure you all understand what I'm saying.
The PoO is there in a support role to his mother, the Monarch, and representing the people of the Netherlands. I feel very strongly that Princess Maxima should've stopped him from using such a word.
On to your question, the fact that Princess Maxima feels the need to be gallivanting all over the world as an ambassador to the U.N., the need to have a house in Argentina, this seemingly strong need to have a house in Africa. This makes me think that The Netherlands is simply not big enough for her.
Anyone can become an ambassador for the U.N. I feel that such a title doesn't even come close to comparing with the privilege of being Princess of The Netherlands, and Princess of Orange-Nassau.
A few years ago she made a speech in which she talked about there not being a Dutch Identity. I don't recall the exact words. This caused a big uproar, as obviously most people disagreed.
I feel that perhaps she should try spending more time in The Netherlands, improving her Dutch pronounciation, and trying to understand/capture that Dutch identity that so far she has failed to identify and appreciate.
We're all expressing opinions here, and that is my opinion. No disrespect intended, and I believe I haven't used any offending words towards her.
