Princess Laurentien and illustrator Sieb Posthuma visited the Antwerp Book Fair to attend the presentation in Belgium of their children's book Mr. Finney and the World Upside Down. The book was introduced by author Anne Provoost who is very enthusiastic about the ecological/environmental idea of the book.
In yesterday's De Standaard an interview with "Laurentien van Oranje" about the book.
Interesting is that the princess (in her book she presents the figure Snail
) finds that "virtual travelling" is better for the environment than actual physical travelling all over the world (in the book). The princess also talks about the fact that she and her husband make their children conscious of their daily energy consumption. The manuscript she read to her children and because of some of their remarks (We don't understand what you mean) she corrected some sentences. The princess also refers to the frankness and straightforwardness of children who can ask the right and spot on questions. Grown ups should discuss things with children more often because they sometimes see things more clearly (of course without giving any simple answers to complicated problems: but that should be the task of politicians/specialists.)
Prince Constantijn finds the book hilarious at times!
Very nice big photo by Marc Herremans in De Standaard.
(De Standaard also gives a little list of other books written by Belgians royals: Queen Fabiola, Prince Laurent, Princess Esmeralda.)
