It seems to me that the allegations directed at various members of the Royal family are relatively tame by usual royal scandals and yet the media is portray thing things as if the Prince and Princess are terrible people.
I’m inclined to think that in its litigious and antagonistic attitude in recent months, the Dutch royal family has offended a previously tolerant media who have up to now prepared to overlook its flaws because it was more appealing to portray the model Royal family, now they have found it sells just as many if not more copies to portray the Prince and his consort negatively.
Don’t forget virtually every major media figure in the UK during the mid 1980s onwards knew that the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales was a joke, perhaps even before the couple themselves but it was better for sales to maintain the perfect image of the perfect marriage and so they played along and even made the romance seem even more intense.
It was only once the royals outed their own problems into the public domain, that the tabloids realised it was just as lucrative to spread bad stories and smelled blood and went in for the kill.
I think the way forward now is careful management, the Prince needs a talking to from someone with expertise in the media and he needs to relax a little.
