: ...I am a couple pasangs to the east of the beach, and am exulting...finally I have found the type of wood I had been looking for. It was fairly hard, but could be easily worked, and I was sure that a new flute could be made. I set my spear, parfleche and quiver down, and take a small axe that I had strapped to my waist, into my right hand. I run my left hand along the length of the branch, and then begin chopping at the base of the limb. I am careful not to harm the tree, itself, this branch could make three flutes, and I see two other similar trees nearby. I will harvest a branch from each of them, and then leave them alone to grow and flourish. Like Kimba, I respected the flora and fauna of Gor, and didn't kill trees unless it was necessary. As I work, I purse my lips, thinking of the stories that Kim had told me of the Tuchuk...that they would chop down a tem tree, and only harvest one board for their wagons from it. I growl, thinking, "Slanty eyed bastards think they run Gor". I put the cheerful thought away, and continue on my task, finally separating the limb from the trunk. I briefly rest the palm of my left hand against the trunk, and say to the tree..."Your branch will not burn, it will be made into an instrument that will live long on Gor...thank you for your gift".

: ...Harvesting the next two branches doesn't take much time, and I give my thanks to each tree as I finish my task. Next, comes the trimming, and I set the three branches down. They are quite long, and it takes a while to chop off the smaller offshoots, until I am left with three clean branches, each about 10 feet long. I take one, and lay it on the ground, and then begin to mark where to cut. The branch does taper, and I cut it off where it is too narrow to be useful. This leaves a length of about 6 feet, and so I chop the branch in half. I set them to the side, and turn my attention to the other two. They are different lengths and thickness than the one I had just worked, and I trim the branches, and think of what I will be attempting to do with these. Making a proper, Yellow Knives flute is time consuming.

: ...I am finally left with seven lengths of wood, and carefully pile them together, and then get ready to make my way to the Exchange. It is always interesting to see if a Merchant will show up. At times, I have watched while scouts lit the signal fire and had tied a naked captive to the 'A-Frame'. I grin as I remember a Torvie we had caught, and spear danced and had given him the 'stripe of humiliation'. He had been hard for all of us, and had pleaded for us to keep mounting him so he could climax, even after several ahn. Finally, Gia had collapsed by me, where I was laying , feeling lightheaded from numerous orgasms. "We need to sell Him, Huntress, or we will all just spend all of our days getting 'Spear Danced". I had agreed, and we had had taken him to the Exchange, and had sold him for a small bag of candy. I did have to smack down a scout who had wanted to go with him. "What was his name?", I muse..."Donut, Do-not, Didn't do, Donati...Donar...Yes, Donar...that was his name. "What a man!", I think, and then return to reality.

: ...I gather up my wood under my left wood, holding my spear, at it's balance point, in my right hand, ready to use it. I shake back my pigtails, and the feathered ornament, and set off towards the exchange. I had told my girl to bring food and drink to the Exchange about this time, and I look forward to eating and resting after my long patrol.
