I understand how you are feeling. It's frustrating for sure. My concern more than anything is you. How can you get back in the driver's seat?
You can't control other people's behaviour, only your own behaviour. Gossip is insidious for sure. It's small-minded and ignorant, and usually conducted by those whose lives are less interesting and happy to see others suffering.
As our buddy William Shakespeare coined. "Nothing as any meaning, but the meaning we give it". See if you can protect yourself with this idea.
People can only hurt you will gossip, if you let me. People can’t hurt you, if you don't get involved with their small-minded, and incipit behaviour. Let them gossip...they will anyway, just make efforts to know who you are. They can't hurt you. They really can't, only if you let them hurt you.
You have a small collection of support, that's all you should be concerned with. Certainly not the townsfolk, they don’t pay your bills…So chuck them out of your conscientiousness.
You are in control. You will handle this, and you are not GOSSIP. You are 32Flavors, who intelligent, loving, fun, and courageous. You ARE NOT GOSSIP. YOU are your NOT Martial issues. As long as you don't leave you...You will handle this.
Remember nothing has meaning except the meaning we give it. See if you can practice that for today...see if you can attached this mantra and watch how things just changed. No one can hurt you. I understand how this must feel for you.
Warmly,
RD
