For me the realization was a Eureka moment and has made me happy, and coming out has been easy in most circumstances. What has been and remains distressing is introducing the idea that I have a GF, am actually in a gay rlx, and am a sexually active homosexual. This is because I live in a VERY catholic community and family, as does GF. My father asked me the other day what exactly was the nature of my rlx with GF because if it was scandalous he would not go forward for ordination as a deacon next year...
I though WTF!? how many het 40 year old women are questioned by their 65 year old fathers about their sex lives? Suddenly mine is up for grabs. I told him this and that it was a deep and intimate friendship...
The Catholic teaching is that its OK to be gay, just not ok to have gay sex because sex belongs in marriage and is for procreation. So i should be chaste and abstinent apparently. No choice....
Oh and BTW, I often think, and especially at the beginning of my rlx, thought that this could happen to ANYBODY who was open enough....
