Dear bj...
I have no children...so I am the odd one out here amongst all who have written to you today.
I have no children , but I do have the blessing of a mom who has been the light of my life....for my entire life.
She has been my hero...and is truly the best example of strength , love and compassion that I have ever known.
She and I both have suffered greatly because of my father.
Many times...countless times...I wished they would have divorced.
Too many times....I saw how weary she was.
We've talked about it at length.
Now...she is failing fast in her health...and if there is one thing that I wish I could have done for her...it would have been to have given her back all the years she struggled because she remained with him.
If she was ever to tell me any of the things that you will be talking to your children about ...I know that her happiness would have been all that I would want for her.
To see her happy ...to know that she was truly enjoying her life...
would be what I would want to give her , if only I could have.
My heart is with you for all that you're feeling today as you look at your children.
Hopefully, be it now or in the course of years from now....they will have gained plenty from the fact that their parents knew how to weather through the tough times of being a family,
in order to have the wonderful times that were indeed awaiting all of you.
