My partner is of 20 years and what works for us is a joint checking account for household expenses. We figured out our monthly expenses and both have direct deposit into this account.
Then we have separate savings account. I can honesly say this is one area that we rarely ever have disagreements on.
Also, when we purchased house, it was in my name, however we have a written legal document that if we split it will be 50/50.
We have a will so that if something happens to me that she will get the house.
Make sure you also have a health care proxy and power of attorney.

: Hi Everybody,
:
: Just wondering how everyone else handles
: money matters....I live with my partner and
: our five children. We both came from hetero
: marriages, both 15+ years. Immediately upon
: starting our lives together, we pooled our
: resources. We have one checking account,
: one savings account, etc.
:
: My partner owns the house (in her name) and
: my ex h got our house. I have since been
: told by a lesbian friend that this is not
: the best idea, as there is no legal
: protections for lesbian couples under the
: law.
:
: Do you think seperate accounts is more
: advisable? How would/do you handle money in
: your lesbian relationship?
:
: Thanks, and Happy Halloween! =)
