I don't believe it's about the strongly held opinions about being out or having labels, or any of those things. but when it becomes a personal battlefield, as yesterday's thread became.
If, the three or four people who argued extensively about whether or not someone said something offensive had just cut it off, rather than allowing it to turn into a cat fight, the thread would still be there. But it turned personal.
I liked the top part,I was not offended or hurt by anything said to me. But there was a whole section between about 4 people on whether someones' reaction was valid, and whether they should apologize.
That, I think is the kind of stuff that is offending others, not the label issue, or the butch/femme thing. or even the bi thread. Those were all hotly debated,strong opinions where given, it even got a little personal. But those threads were not deleted because it didn't turn into the personal fight that yesterdays thread turned into.
There were about 165 post in yesterday's thread, Only about 40 dealt with the topic of labels. the rest was a shitfest of: "Oh you said something that offended me", " Oh you are attacking me, oh stop saying that to me." slap, slap. slap, slap. It went on too long. I've seen it happen before, and I haven't even been here that long, but it usually stops before it gets out of hand. People recognize their own bad behaivor and move on, that didn't happen yesterday.
Joanne came in and removed the thread. Call it censorship or whatever, but she did what she thought was right to maintain the purpose of the board.
