First -- if they have one -- I use the unisex or family bathroom.
Second, if I don't see one, I ask.
Third, I use the women's. But Laurie or one of the kids usually want to go with me to "protect" me.
Fourth, if I know I'm in a queer friendly space, and they don't have unisex bathrooms, I use the men's.
There's pressure from trans groups in DC for a law requiring unisex bathrooms in all public-access places in the city. It has a good chance of passing.
And I see more and more unisex and/or family bathrooms all the time. IKEA has them. One of our pools has them. Some malls have them.
