There are a few element of Moon Knight that drew me in.
I was initially drawn to Moon Knight by how different he looked. I love the costume and think that's what struck me at first the most. I loved how sleek and stylish the white costume looked (Kevin will tell you that it is in actuality silver, not white). And the issue that caught my eye was Moon Knight Special Edition #1. When Bill Sienkiewicz drew MK against the night sky or up on a rooftop, there was just nothing more beautiful.
Also, Moon Knight has that cool-as-hell cowl. I mean, what other super hero at that time wore a cowl? Usually cowls are more reserved for the villains. This added to the mystery of Moon Knight and also established him as a character that sometimes walked the line between good guy and bad guy.
Moon Knight also fought more than his share supernatural characters - like Morpheus and the Werewolf By Night. This appealed to me as I've been drawn to the horror genre more than sci-fi or fantasy.
But I suppose how I was attracted to Moon Knight the most was in the sense that very few comic readers knew about the character or followed him. While growing up, I had several friends who read comic books. But they always followed the mainstram ones such as Spidey, Batman, The X-Men and the like. For me, Moon Knight was my personal secret character. I took it as a matter of pride that I followed his stories. No one else claimed Moon Knight as their favorite, so I did.
Moon Knight also didn't have super powers (except for the Fist of Khonshu series). So in a lot of ways, Moon Knight was underestimated and the underdog in a lot of fights. I've always thought of myself as an underdog and I've always rooted for the underdog in a lot of sports. So it's been fun watching Moon Knight trying to get "over the hump" and become a member of the mainstream Marvel Universe all of these years as an underdog.
Of course, most of us don't want to see him sell out and get to the point of being a more popular chatacter if he has to lose all of the unique qualities that make him who he is. This is probably why so many of our group are concerned with how the current series is unfolding.
What's everyone else's story?
: I was always a Moon Knight fan; but my love
: for the character grew with age. The older I
: was the more I could relate to Marc's split
: personalities. I was a theater geek but also
: played football in college. My personality
: seemed to adapt to whatever group or click I
: was around. I also did some things as a
: young man that I'm not proud of; so the fact
: that Moon Knight is seeking redemption also
: hits home. On the lighter side Moon Knight
: has the most Bad-Ass costume in all of
: Hero-dom!What about you? What is it about
: Moon Knight that drew you in?
