Well, I finally got my hands on the graphic novel Down South. Old news for most of you, I expect. I really enjoyed it.
Major positives were the Zapata Brothers and the overall plot arc. The artwork was atmospheric; nowhere near as stunning as from the Bottom, but gritty.
On the less good side, it was never really obvious to me why the Punisher was there, and Toltec, while menacing, was never really explained. To be frank, I resented the way MK felt like the least "super" of all the supers in the arc and, once again, it hardly felt like an MK triumph at the end. True, for once he had not been humiliated, but he had hardly done anything other than delegate vengeance to Toltec (whereas I thought Vengeance was about the only thing he and Khonshu still had in common). I was disappointed that Jake was not that different a character to Marc. It's not clear to me at all where the relationship with Khonshu is going. Long list of grumbles from a happy customer!
But when I turned the final page I was looking forward to his return to NY and I'll scour these boards for clues as to how that story turns out long before the books appear here in the UK!

: Tremendous talent in scripting, making
: characters come to life... I think the best
: arc since the relaunch was the Huston/Benson
: collaboration of 'God and Country'..people
: who are always praising Huston and
: forgetting Benson overlook the fact that a
: lot of people really slammed 'Midnight
: Sun'..I think the combined talents produced
: an amazing arc, and then Benson on his own
: also kind of fizzled out a little bit on his
: second arc....too bad..
:
: Although I was only out and out disappointed
: a couple times...first, I think Marc should
: have been more confident he could beat
: Bullseye..I loved how it ended, I just
: didn't like that it was inferred that he
: couldn't, I believe Moon Knight can most
: definitely take out Bullseye, hand to hand
: like it was.
:
: Second, the 'Down South' arc had a new level
: of misleading art direction.. But I'm not
: sure who's fault that was. It was a shame
: though, because I think 26 and 27 are two of
: the best MK covers ever. To me the MK
: standing in the rain one is the essence of
: the character in visual form. And as for the
: writing, the arc just lost some steam after
: the midpoint, IMO.
