I like the lunar-cycle regulated powers, but I like when they're so low powered that it's indistinct whether he actually has powers or has more of a psychological boost. He "thinks" he has powers, so he does. Like chi and fakirs. Kind of a mix of adrenaline, and mind over matter. The fact that he's a bit crazy would just help explain this away and make the powers' true origins mysterious.

For one, it would tie him back to the moon and Khonshu a bit more than he seems sometimes to be. (Face it, a lot of people regard him as a low-rent Batman, and that's a shame.) It would also explain his ability to take inhuman amounts of punishment. I'd say give him slight super powers. Lifting something that weighs a ton once in a while, dodging bullets, and being able to get back up when anyone else would be dead...that would be believable. Bench pressing a bus and bouncing bullets off his chest would be going too far.
