: That sales are low? I love the book, so what
: do I know?
:
Definately not.
Ive been reading Moon Knight since #1 of his very first series back in about 1980 and personally I think the current run is some of the best Ive ever read.
I think the problem lies somewhere with the character. Personally I think that few comic readers can shake the idea that he's some kind of cheap Batman knock-off and then you can add to that the fact that he's not beating up the hulk on a monthly basis or teaming up with Wolverine etc.
Personally I think the character is a brilliant and largely unique one - a down on his luck former millionnaire with busted knees, severe psychological problems, brutal methods and a 'has he/hasnt he got superpowers?' question mark above his head. That doesnt sound like Batman to me and I just wish more people would realise that.
Street level martial artist type characters seem to have limited appeal to fans of Marvel comics and sales of these titles dont seem to be sustainable. Youve only got to look at the fact that Brubakers Daredevil, Ennis' Punisher and Fractions Iron Fist have all struggled to maintain high sales after the first few issues of their runs and these books now post very modest sales between 25,000 and 40,000 per month. When you consider that Benson doesnt have anywhere near the profile of any of those writers I think he's done very well.
