You point is valid enough when it comes to high-profile 'outings', like Batwoman, Rawhide Kid or Northstar. But you can't honestly expect me to believe that making Frenchie gay is a sales stunt, considering that it was not hyped in any way. How is it a tool to grab attention if no one knows about it without reading the book first? I also think you are making a very big (and somewhat offensive) assumption to claim that attention grabbing is the motive for all of these gay characters. Couldn't it be motivated by characterization? Or a desire for diversity? Or even the personal biases of the creators involved? Not *everything* is about sales stunts and shock value. : - Hulkling I don't think 'attention grabbing' had anything to do with this relationship, considering that the writer was trying to be subtle about the relationship, and didn't intend to reveal it until later in the first year, but ended up dealing with it sooner when readers picked up on it and wrote in. : - Blok of X-Force Bloke, who was only a minor character for one issue before he got killed off? I think you're reaching on that one. Vivisector or Phat might be better examples...although in their case, I'd say it was about the storyline instead of the shock value. It was a one-page reference to him exploring bisexuality, which has never been brought up again. Again, I think you're stretching. : - Flatman Slott was playing off a gag that had been made several years ago in the DEADPOOL series, where Flatman's teammates suspected he was gay. If Dan were really 'outing' him as a way of grabbing attention, I doubt he would have done it in issue #4 of a 4 issue miniseries. : And there are others I can't think of at Skein? Joystick? Swordsman? I do get what you're saying--and its true that gay and lesbian characters can grab attention since they are still somewhat controversial in comics. But I really think you are overstating your case, and using some faulty examples.

: This is one thing I am really getting tired
: of in comics these days. It seems like every
: new comic these days has a gay character in
: it. I have nothing against gays or lesbians,
: it is just that it is being used too much as
: a tool to get attention.
