I was also concerned at first, but more because I'm tired of seeing characters who were previously established as hetero being retconned into gays. In this case, at least Frenchie offered an explanation for his previous romantic relationships-- that's more than you usually get in these kinds of retcons.
I don't know that it fits his anguish over the death of his lover Isabelle in Moon Knight I#11, but at least an effort was made.
