I came across Moon Knight in the "Round Robin" series of the Amazing Spider-Man. There were several references to Marc Spector: Moon Knight, so I decided to check it out. While I was at the comic book store, I found Moon Knight #1 vol. 1 and picked that up, too. Needless to say, I loved the character, especially with Moench as the writer. His Resurrection Wars series was excellent.
: I started reading Moon Knight when the first
: issue of volume #1 hit the stands almost 26
: years ago this August. I still remember it
: very vividly. I walked into my local little
: convenience store, across the street from my
: house, to get my comics. At that time there
: were no such things as comic shops in my
: area, you had to get them at the grocery
: store, conveneience shop or the drug store.
: I rememeber walking to the store that
: fateful day in August and went right over to
: the wire rack and to my amazement there was
: Moon Knight #1 with that incredibly catchy
: Bill Sienkiewicz. I was literally immedeatly
: drawn to it. I have always been fascinated
: by the moon, egypt as well as the native
: american and asian cultures. I picked up
: this issue and it was all over from there. I
: was hooked. Moon Knight fit right in with my
: favs Spider-man and Daredevil and they have
: guest appeared in each others books to prove
: it.
:
: I, obviously, picked up the other volumes of
: Moon Knight only to be disappointed time and
: time again. The 2nd volume they went
: overboard with the Egyptian theme and in the
: 3rd volume they ignored it all together.
: Nobody after Moench left could grasp the
: character. They didn't understand what makes
: him different, special. I went back and
: picked all of his appearances before issue
: #1 and watch as this character grew from an
: obscure antagonist into a hero which hooked
: me even more.
:
: After the first series ended, about 22 years
: ago, there really wasn't much for me to get
: excited about. All things paled in
: comparison to what I was exposed to with the
: chracter, especially the understanding that
: the costume was white. Thankfully there is
: now the Essential that provides everyone who
: was unfortunate to miss out on that
: brilliant stuff to have that opportunity to
: experience what is Moon Knight. Now, along
: comes Charlie Huston. A great writer and fan
: of the character old school, who feels the
: same way I do and truly gets it. He,
: hopefully, provides an opportunity to take
: Moon Knight to the next level. I am sick of
: him being referred to as a second of third
: tier character. He has the potential to be
: just as interesting and commercially
: sccessful as any of the other heroes out
: there, he just needed someone to take him
: there. Who knows? Hustons run on Moon Knight
: could equivicate that of Millers run on
: Daredevil. The person that refines the
: chracter and brings out their best. For that
: I am very hopeful. I want to read a great
: Moon Knight book again, it has been 22 years
: in the waiting for me.

: This board isn't very active right now.
: Especially with the launch of a new series.
: So that made me wonder... is it because he's
: been in limbo for a while now?
:
: Are you new readers, who are waiting for
: enough issues to get the gist of who he is
: before discussing things.
:
: Are you long time readers waiting for this
: first arc to finish before talking about it?
:
: I first became aware of moon knight around
: the time his second (6-issue) series came
: out. By the time he got a new series in
: 198, I was onboard and stuck it out until
: around the infinity war. I evebtually read
: the end of the run mainly for Platt's
: artwork and skipped the limited series that
: came afterward.
:
: I'm drawn to this new series for the
: combination of art and storytelling. it
: mattered that they are trying to establish
: Moon knight as a major player in the marvel
: universe and not just another also-ran.
:
: Moon Knight has always had a visual that
: made me want to see what he's up to. I
: won't even look if the art is what I
: consider bad. I will lose interest if the
: stories start becoming what i consider to be
: mediocre.
:
: But i think this series is off to a great
: start. The author genuinely cares deeply
: about this character and looks like he's
: going to really delve into him. If he
: succeeds, I think Moon knight is going to
: have a very long run.
:
: So how long have you been a Moon Knight fan?
