Re: Marvel UK Zoids strip

Thanks. I knew most of the info regarding the secret wars stuff and the collected comics (Thanks anyway), my question was more geared towards a collection such as a TPB. I have every strip printed, but would like to see it reprinted in modern standards. The one piece of information missing from your blurb was the Zoids annual with originated strips in it. |
Tomy sadly couldn't help me with an enquiry as they said any decision to reprint is not with them, but with Marvel comics. Not much chance of Panini reprinting them.
: Off the top of my head, Zoids originally
: appeared as a 'teaser' ad/strip in Marvel UK
: weeklies Spider-Man & Secret Wars,
: before appearing in the latter as a regular
: strip (around #19). By the time the title
: changed to Scret Wars II (approx. #32),
: Spider-Man & Zoids weekly had been
: launched, running to only 51 issues, with
: Zoids gaining increasing dominance over the
: covers & page count share.
: In fact, Spider-Man & Zoids was
: cancelled partly due to poor sales &
: also to relaunch Zoids as a US-format
: monthly (Marvel UK had already launched
: their Action Force title in the same format
: by this time). Sadly, toy sales dwindled in
: the meantime & Zoids #1 ultimately never
: hit the newsstands.
: Around the same time that the weeklies were
: being published (86-88), Marvel UK published
: a number of "Collected Comics"
: summer & winter specials. I vaguely
: recall there being at least 2 Zoids
: editions, so suspect that the Secret Wars
: strips were probably reprinted.
: A quick Google uncovered the following
: Richard Starkings interview - really
: interesting stuff about his time at Marvel
: UK, including Zoids:
: ...whilst another Starkings interview
: includes (I think) the splash page from the
: never-published Zoids monthly #1:
: Hope this is of help.
: --Previous Message--
: Does anybody know if the UK Zoids strip was
: reprinted anywhere? This was a classic strip
: which went way beyond the toys and I feel
: would benefit from being in one collection.
: Some classic creators worked on the series,
: just how many issues did it have, I can't
: find any Spider-man and Zoids beyond issue
: Maybe Titan should do something if we all
: petition them.
