Posted by Luke Which is always a tightrope to walk with Ray... the Phoenix allows her to do so much that using her effectively is hard without making her the deus ex machina for every adventure. The little feud between them over the affections of Alistaire or about what Kitty could get away with wearing vs Ray made them seem very real and grounded as characters -- unlike Meggan, who was (purposefully) depicted as the naive shrinking violet quite often. Not that there is anything wrong with that -- Meg is a great character but not as "realistic" as the other two. Speaking of Claremont's characterizations, what do you think of his handling of Brian so far? Brian seemed more confident and comfortable with the role of hero in #2 than he did in the old series... I think it suits him. While he started out as the reluctant and imperfect hero, he has grown through his adventures and become a better person. Hopefully he can keep some spotlight in the new book. : The Cross-Time Caper was one of the best Cross Time Caper is a classic. The one world which was a reflection of the Marvel Universe, with all the constant fighting and destruction, is a great issue. : I agree for the mos part, but I have to say The first issue of "Excalibur" I ever read featured Betsy. It was #55 or around thereabouts, and it featured the team throwing a big party, and Betsy was there. In the end the party was invaded by Sat-Yr-9 and then on the last page cliffhanger, who should show up but Jamie! (I FEEL HAPPY!!!) I am not a HUGE fan of her either but I think she has more of a solid tie to this team than Sage does. The fact that I know jack and spit about Sage not withstanding. : Yep, it's trying and Claremont is kind of There is something mentioned in an upcoming solicit about Excalibur becoming Europe's premier "superteam," not "mutant team," so maybe Claremont is sticking to his guns. The title works best I think as a non-mutant book, just as a team book in general. "Mutant book" ties it too much into whatever is going on with that whole mess; Excalibur should be free to explore the multiverse or whatever. : Long Live Excalibur!

: I agree, and it works, Claremont always
: seems to focus on his female characters
: (whatever title he works on) and Ray and
: Kitty he can make work without being
: annoying (something he manages with only a
: few other characters). Claremont
: understands those females and has never gone
: overboard with their power levels which is
: a good thing IMHO.
: arcs of the old seris though, IMHO :-)
: I won't miss betsy. That's NO because I
: dislike the character but rather that I just
: haven't felt she's fit (or achieved
: anything, for want of a better word!) in
: this arc. I like her in Uncanny,
: personally. ![]()

: following a pattern that worked and he's
: managing not to repeat his old stories, too
: blatantly, which I consider a good thing :-)
:
: I'll definitely second that motion!

: Cheers.
