Walt is shown only in Sasquatch form, which indicates the Beasts' subtle influence. Walt's soul is divided between Aurora, Northstar, and Talisman, so it is unlikely that he has complete control over Tanaraq. Moreover, Walt takes high risk/high reward chances. That has been established from the very beginning.
Puck not being an integral part of this story mirrors AF vol. 1 #1, the connections between the characters are conveyed in a way not seen in years, and Alpha Flight is in a seemingly no-win situation, fighting the Chaos Kings' minions surrounded by cannibalistic Wendigoes in thrall to the Great Beasts who are manifesting to their fullest power on Earth.
This is a true Alpha Flight story.
