How AF could be made a good book.

I think AF needs a hook besides its setting. Maybe have the members cursed so they can't wander too far from each other without dying? That way you could justify a team that really doesn't get along. And I'd eliminate the 'only Canada' part, especially if you couldn't get a Canadian to script the book. Make their mission supernatural crimes or disasters anywhere in the world.

Dream artist and writer? Jesus Saiz and Greg Rucka off the top of my head...
