Took it to be SHIELD is most likely included as part of the 'joint' part in the US/Canadian team (which they should have plainly said since the beginning instead of 3 Americans on an Canadian team of 1 Talisman). USAgent is online the whole battle yet at the end seems to independently initiate contact someone outside of Agent Brown's team. "...for awhile there it was looking pretty gloomy." - suggests he was aware of some other concern with Pointer. And the part about "watchin' the skies for a storm front" screams USAgent is now DoubleAgent. Not necessarily nefarious but likely a new/different agenda for him stick around.
Both intriguing little mysteries but 12 months of cover price to find 'em out? ...*sigh*... Hoping for less decompression and more familiar faces next issue.
and check out the caption contest...
: Ah, who knows for sure what that character is
: supposed to be. I bet USAgent is talking to
: SHIELD and really still works for them. No
: idea if the new doctor matters. The redhead
: girl doesn't ring a bell but since he
: absorbs mutant power maybe Pointer is losing
: the 'residual power' from being the
: Collective and needs to steal more?
: I'm betting yes. So the redhead is who he
: uses to get more power, or one of many?
: That's one way to take care of the problems
: of CW, have Pointer absorb their energy and
: de-mutantize them
