Hello Gang, this past Sunday, in an attempt to fix my starting problem, I had the battery tested. It turns out the battery had two bad cells, so I purchased a new one. Unfortunately, in my haste to install the new battery, I got the polarity reversed and connected the negative cable to the positive pole and the positive to the negative. I got a momentary puff of white smoke and smelled something up front burning. I quickly fixed the problem with the battery and was afraid I had either damaged my starter or alternator. Well, the car started right up and I was praying the whole time. Well, now my battery light on the voltage gauge stays red. When I crank the engine and it starts the light goes out, but I'm concerned. Can anybody provide some insight into what might be causing this issue. If I have to change the voltage regulator or what. Thanks in advance for any help you provide.. Duke Roberts 1986.5 shark..
