When plug wires begin to go bad, the spark that goes through the wire will sometimes jump to ground instead of going to the spark plug; especially during rain and high humidity. The air/fuel mixture in the cylindar changes the amount of resistance in the gap of the spark plug so that during hard acceleration for example, it might be easier for the spark to jump the spark plug gap than to jump from the wire to ground. I seem to recall that when I have had wires go bad, the stumbling tended to be at the instant when I would just begin to accelerate and then clear up withing a second or two. Bad spark plugs can do the same thing.
