Posted by dr bob on 1/26/2007, 4:05 pm, in reply to "Just bought a pair of Euro "Eye Pods" with H4s..." The reflectors in most H4 lamps are silvered, rather than chromed. The process is a metal deposition similar to the way silver is added to the rear of a glass mirror, but it's on the inside and no protective coatings. Bottom line is that there is no good way to restore the silver coating as it goes away. This is one of the major DOT arguments against H-4 headlights; In Europe they are relatively cheap and get replaced regularly, before the reflectors get too bad. Options-- Buy a set of euro-spec 7" H-4 lamps. You'll still gate to use the chrome retaining rings. Better option is to get a set of the later 8" H-4 assemblies from Wally/Dave at Specialists, with the few extra 'upgrade' bits that might be needed. This will give you the S4+ lamps but with the hard H-4 cutoff and beam pattern. Last time I looked, the new 8" H-4 ass'ys were in the $500/pair neighborhood, and you get to buy the bulbs too.

Just a hint on the 'diamond' headlights: Don't waste your time or money. The flats and angles in those lamps look interesting from the front, where all those wacko spurious reflections grab your attention. But the light that's used to give the off-axis reflections is light that you'd really rather have going straight down the road to help you when you are driving.
