Posted by Nicole on 10/10/2006, 1:07 am, in reply to "Shift Kit - Auto" For the S4 and later transmissions, I only know of kick-down modifications: Some guys upgrade to the dynamic kick-down of the 94/95 GTS models, which includes a different TPS (requires intaek removal) and a few other things. This was discussed before on the rennlist forums; you might want to do a search there, if you're interested. The other option, pretty much for all 4-Speed autos, is the Jager Engineering Transmission Shift Relay Kit. My understanding of how this works is that when you press your shifter button, the automatic gets a kick-down signal. No extra switches needed, and the installation is hidden and works with any shifter knob. Advantage: You con't have to move your had to switch a separate button - it's right at your fingertip when you have your hand on the shifter. Otherwise, guys have installed big superchargers on their S4 and later models without ever experiencing any auto trans problems. Porsche added a transmission oil cooler for the GTS, so maybe you want to consider this, if you drive really hard.

I have heard of one owner who upgraded the torque converter of his 82 models' 3-speed auto. The modification supposedly brought firmer shifts with less slip, and he raved about the difference it made.
