Is the BLM really doing their own program justice?
The concept of the taking of these wild horses, showing the public the results of that training in 90 days, is yet another way in which the BLM is showing it is merely interested in numbers in the adoption program and not it's success nor the success of the animals.
Yes, some animals will come around very quickly while others need more time. To show the general, non-professional trainer adopter that this is what you end up with or even allow or promote the idea without saying or infering it, is disgusting for the poor animals that are returned by well meaning yet dupped adopters.
Many folks who don't have time to spend with their adopted animal for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week (which is not good for the animal anyway), for 90 days, will get discouraged and give up on their wonderful mustang and take it back to BLM because the results aren't as fast as what the BLM is portraying.
Yeah, there are those horses that will succeed in a short amount of time. But are we being fair to expect that of all horses, no matter the breed, instead of doing what is best for "that" animal?
If you adopt, take the time that your animal needs. If you go in with a time frame/constraint, you have already set up a wall of failure for that animal when you approach that unfair date that you have set.
Remember, you started with a wild animal. Are you going to dominate it and remove it's character? Or, are you going to work with that wonderful character to bring out the willingness of a partner which translates into the animation of movement and a life time partnership instead of mechanical submission!!??
