Hi,
I am glad you took the horse in and really hope you will have the time and patience to train him properly.
I have two Mustangs myself and will be happy to give you moral support.
What kind of abuse did he have to experience?
I would just spend as much time as possible with him, take things one day at a time, don't worry about setting goals on what has to be accomplished by a cerain time. Like someone else said, do all his care youself, let him gain trust in you, it may take a while. He has not had great experinece with humans, who can blame him???
I sat in the midlle of the corral and just read a book or talked to him, eventually he will get comfortable around YOU, just build on every little thing. These horses are smart and eventually he will know you mean no harm, but it may take a while.
Oh, and don't listen to people who will tell you Horror stories and say "some will never come around", they don't know what they are talking about, just keep things at a slow pace!
Most important though, stay safe and don't get hurt!!
Keep posting and let me know how you are doing.
One of my horses I adopted from the BLM and the other one has gone through several owners before me, big differnene in the two of them!
