To Mr. Willard Reese,
Do you or anyone in the Group have a copy photo of the 457th Group Organizational Colors, (Flag) under Army Regulation 260-10 Dated 25 Oct 1944. Likewise does your assocation have a photo copy of the 748th Squadron Guidon? Was there a Unit Insignia for the Enlisted Color of their Dress Uniform? Unit Crest of the 457th Bomb Group? If so the crest would have been in the center of the Army standard Eagle on the Flag of the AAF Group Colors (Flag). A site to review the Army Air Force Colors is http://tmg110.tripod.com/usafh1.htm
If your assocation has any colored pictures or photo's, I would be interested in acquiring a copy.
My realitive was one of the MIA from the 4th Bombing Run for Augsburg, SGT Marion D. Ross, 748th Bomb Squadron. He was a left waist gunner on Lt. Chinn's Plane. I noticed that your group had a reunion in 2001. There was a photo's of the former POW's from the 457th Bomb Group (Heavy) and one with the 748th Bomb Squadron. I am interested if any of the 2 former POW's from Lt. Chinn's plane 42-31517 were at that Reunion? They were, Lt McNichol the Navigator and SGT Peragine the Aircraft Engineer. Lt. Vollmouth evaded capture. If anyone knows of those former three AAF Crewman are alive, I would like to ask them questions about my realitive who was listed as MIA. If they might have remembered him, and know what possibly happened to him during that mission? SGT Marion Ross' name was placed on the tablets of missing at Luxemburg Cemetery. I am putting together all the information I can for his last living sibling, a brother residing in Ohio.
