Ok first of all, the only album that 311 was sort of forced to make was the Greatest Hits '93-'03, and that was just their singles and 2 new songs. If 311 had made that album on their own then it would have included songs like Use of Time, 8:16 AM, Applied Science and other songs that were some of their greatest hits.
Second of all, you can't call yourself a 311 fan if you say this album blows. Everyone knows it's different and not as hard rockin as some of the others, but their is so much musical talent on DTOM, I think it is their best produced album with the technical aspects of it all. Everyone was shocked when Transistor came out because it was different, but Transistor is the third most common albums that I hear as people's favorites, almost second it seems at times.
I too respect your opinion, but it's been barely over a week since it came out...I urge you to listen to it and let it grow on you. Each album has its ups and downs, but at least be a 311 fan because of the kickass shows they throw down on...their shows are always crazy good even if their latest sound is mellower than before.
