It's really about how sometimes life isn't really fair. Bastards and mean people will occasionally win and go farther in life than those who are nice and actually try. "swimmers drown without a sound" "emperor's clothes never exposed." It's like people with potential and actual skill not getting recognized but people less deserving get it instead.
